2008-2009 CANOC Awardees

Luke Swenson - Luke is an MSc student at the University of British Columbia under the supervision of Dr. Richard Harrigan. His primary study area is the utility (sensitivity/specificity/negative and positive predictive values) of a weighted mutation list for predicting risk for abacavir hypersensivity (HLA-B*5701 positive).  A second aim of his research proposes to see if the “score” (mutations) change over time (while on therapy); and lastly, he will seek  to see if ultra-deep sequencing and other techniques to detect minority variants will improve the sensitivity of the model.

Aranka Anema - Aranka is a PhD candidate at the University of British Columbia. Her research uses the CANOC database to investigate the prevalence of food insecurity, and to see if food insecurity is associated with poorer outcomes in Canada (lower CD4 count response to therapy, increased risk of death, etc.).

Tony Antoniou - Tony is a MSc level, post-PharmD under the supervision of Dr. Mona Loutfy. His area of study is the incidence of specific serious drug reactions to highly active antiretroviral therapy by querying the CANOC database.
